basic rules of football

Football, or soccer as it’s called in some parts of the world, has a set of rules that govern how the game is played. Here’s an overview of the basics:

1. Teams and Players: Each team has 11 players, including one goalkeeper. Substitutions are allowed based on competition rules.

2. Duration of the Game A match is played in two halves, each lasting 45 minutes, with a 15-minute halftime break. Extra time or penalty shootouts may occur in certain competitions if the score is tied.

3. The Objective The aim is to score more goals than the opposing team. A goal is scored when the entire ball crosses the goal line between the goalposts and beneath the crossbar.

4. The Ball in Play  The ball remains in play unless it fully crosses the goal line or touchline, or if the referee stops play.

5. Fouls and Misconduct Actions like tripping, pushing, handball (except by the goalkeeper within their penalty area), or reckless tackling are considered fouls. Misconduct may lead to yellow cards (warning) or red cards (dismissal).

6.Offside Rule
A player is in an offside position if they are nearer to the opponent's goal than the second-last defender when the ball is played to them, unless they're in their own half of the field. It’s not an offense by itself, but being involved in active play can lead to an offside decision.

7. Restarts Various methods are used to restart play after a stoppage, such as:

   - Kick-off To start the game or resume it after a goal.

-Throw-in When the ball crosses the touchline.

-Goal Kick When the attacking team plays the ball over the opponent's goal line without scoring.

-Corner Kick When the defending team plays the ball over their own goal line without a goal.

8.Penalties If a foul is committed inside the penalty area, a penalty kick is awarded to the opposing team.

These are the essentials, but football’s beauty lies in its simplicity combined with tactical depth. Do you follow any particular league or team?
